ABSTRACT

Local governments are enhancing their governance through various information communication technologies (ICTs). This article presents an exploratory case study of three municipalities within the United States, examining how each applies YouTube for communication. Using content analysis and selected statistical tests of mean difference, the authors analyzed the videos uploaded between January 2020 to August 2020. The three municipalities used YouTube to document policymaking, publicize programs and services, update critical information during times of crises, and, in some cases, create unique brand images. The average number of views per video were similar across the three YouTube channels. However, one of the municipalities received a statistically significant number of average likes per video, which spotlights its positive brand image. In conclusion, the authors suggest directions for future research and recommend practices for social media adaptation in government.

ABSTRACT

Given COVID-19's disproportionate adverse impact on hospitality employees, we explore the proposition that COVID-19-related career challenges prompt CALD hospitality workers to rethink the meaning and purpose of work to explore ways to cope and restore occupational well-being, thus triggering occupational change. Thematic analysis of qualitative data from interviews with 25 CALD hotel workers reveal different sub-groups of CALD hotel workers differentially cognitively frame pandemic-induced employment changes to cope and restore occupational well-being: 1. as an opportunity for behavioral (occupational) change by CALD workers in refugee jobs;2. as a temporary phenomenon, with CALD workers who were temporary migrants foreseeing positive career outcomes;and 3. as an opportunity for behavioral (occupational) advancement in hotels by CALD workers who were permanent residents with hospitality qualifications. We contribute to literature at the intersection of coping and occupational well-being research in hospitality, providing a fine-grained understanding of how CALD hotel workers coped and restored occupational well-being, by differentially reconstruing the meaning of work and undertaking occupational change, be it cognitive or behavioral.

ABSTRACT

Governments have long faced traditional bureaucratic problems and developed a set of mechanisms to handle them, but few studies have examined the government’s underlying characteristics in addressing such problems. Wicked problems–those with unclear definitions, causal complexity and conflicting goals–are increasingly emerging and are frequently observed in highly turbulent environments–those where variables behave in unpredictable ways. We study the relevance of a range of governmental characteristics during the COVID-19 pandemic and find that, while all government characteristics are sometimes relevant, no single characteristic is always relevant and so they are best treated as a portfolio. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

ABSTRACT

Background: Essential health services including immunization were significantly impacted due to COVID-19 with devastating outcomes in low-and middle-income countries (LMIC). The disruption in immunization services due to global pandemic and measures undertaken at regional levels to overcome need to be studied as pandemic preparedness strategy. Objective: To document the contextual narratives related to immunization services during the Covid-19 disease outbreak by interviewing qualified paediatricians in the field practice area of private tertiary care teaching medical college Methodology: In-depth phone-based interviews were conducted with paediatricians in diverse settings during November 2020 to March 2021. Reflexive thematic analysis was performed, major themes identi-fied, and case studies documented. Results: Paediatricians shared rich experiences related to immunization services impacted due to COVID-19 especially during the earlier months due to imposition of lockdowns leading to discontinua-tion, disruption of services, decrease in volume of immunizations, modest transition to telehealth service delivery, facility-level changes brought in to ensure immunization services and capacity building measures for upskilling. Conclusions: Contextual narratives revealed in this study provide rich narrative about the disruption of immunization services due to COVID-19. These findings need to be understood and leveraged to be future ready and prevent further disruptions by identifying and scaling up key solutions piloted in this study. © 2022, MedSci Publications. ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease (COVID 19) is the dangerous pandemic that scares the world from November 2019 affects more than 50% of the world population. Internet of things (IoT) is coming as a survivor to manage the pandemic situation because of its controlling and monitoring capability without human intervention. In this paper, Secure IoT integrated withwireless sensor network (WSN) for COVID 19 is implemented to monitor the infected patient s health condition. The sensor node s monitored data are encrypted using the different existing encryption algorithms to secure the health care data. Triad parallel advanced encryption standard (AES) algorithmis novel encryption algorithm proposed to encrypt the data in the internet server that improves the security of the stored data and the parallel processing reduces the execution time of the algorithm in insignificant amount. In this proposed work, the performance evaluation of the network in different encryption algorithms are carried out. © 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Corona Viruses primarily cause enzootic infections in birds and mammals but, in the last few decades, it is being capable of infecting humans as well. World Health Origination announces newly emerging Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak is a pandemic and major threats in mortality and economic crisis. Objectives: To study existing knowledge, hygienic practice, their traditional food habits and cultural activity on the novel COVID-19 is every much essential among the general population to reduce further spread of disease and assimilate the impact for better standards of living. Methods: A validated and pre-tested questionnaire on knowledge of pandemic COVID-19, hygienic practice, traditional food habitats and cultural activities were assessed in 800 participants from both Urban and Rural area which includes aged 18 and above years of both male and female, having school and graduate education. Results: This cross sectional study showed that average knowledge on COVID-19 was 68% (Mode of Transmission 94%;Affecting organ 79%;Morphology of Virus 33% and Symptoms 65%), 78% showed good Hygienic practice in which only 62% were using handkerchief while coughing and sneezing. An average of 77% consumed traditional foods (using banana leaves 58%;Rasam 80%;food ingredients like Turmeric, Ginger and Garlic 94%, lighting lamp and benzoin resin smoke 88%). Conclusion: As till date there is no effective prophylaxis for COVID-19, which leads to the spread in an exponential way across the globe, but still in India tropical climate, existing knowledge on mode of the transmission of virus, good hygienics practices among the public as well as sensitized by the Government will combat the spread and death due to COVID-19 virus irrespective of dense population.
